Look Back at 2017, A LEGO® year.

We don’t think we can recall a year like this one just gone. In 2017 we saw, not one, but two LEGO movies, the release of the biggest set ever (which was sold out in minutes) and the re-release of a 10 year old classic. Gift with purchases were more impressive than previous years, LEGO Ideas sets got bigger and the opening of a new flagship store in Singapore rounded off Bricks World's conversion to LEGO Certified Stores. Oh, and don’t forget we were visited by a celebrity LEGO designer. All this in just 12 months!

In case you missed out, here is a recap of some of the highlights at our LEGO Certified Stores.

The official launch of 75192 UCS Millennium Falcon.  This behemoth was on display, for the first time in Asia, at the VIP Opening Event - the evening before the Grand Opening of our flagship store at ION Orchard.

We finally converted our final monobrand store at Plaza Singapura to a LCS, by swapping our old store with our next door neighbour!

We brought you the LEGO Store Calendar, starting with Technic Tuesdays for a hands on experience of the LEGO Technic range, bringing you challenges such as Fastest Star in an RC Tracked Racer,  Stunt Truck driving and Telehandler transportation as well as a chance to win prizes.

LEGO Games Night at VivoCity gave everyone the opportunity to create and play with LEGO games, challenging each other to some old family favourites including chess, Who am I? and marble run aswell as giving children the opportunity to play with the new LEGO Boost.

As part of the 10258 LEGO London Bus launch you helped us build Singapore’s first LEGO MRT Map at Plaza Singapura, placing your local MRT stations on the map. The first 250 people who bought the London Bus also walked away with an iconic Hackney Cab designed from LEGO bricks.

2017 saw the introduction of LEGO AFOL Night at LEGO Certified Stores (Bricks World).  Bringing product previews, build challenges, fun competitions, quizzes, goody bags and prizes - just for AFOLs. 

In preparation for THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE and The LEGO Ninjago Movie, two atrium events gave children the opportunity to help Batman defeat The Joker and to Train like a Ninja while lucky winners in-store were given surprise tickets to the movies.  Brave souls (soles!) also took on the LEGO Walk of Fire at the LEGO BATMAN MOVIE Event with Gerald Koh & Joakim Gomez from 987FM.

LEGO BrickHeadz launched a whole new genre and the queues for the sets and the exclusive LCP designed display gallery showed the enthusiasm for the new designs. The highlight of the event was, of course, the set signing by BrickHeadz lead designer Marcos Bessa, who is also responsible for some of those well liked sets such as Disney Castle & Ghostbusters HQ.

So a very busy year 2017.  But what do we expect to see lined up in 2018? Well we don’t want to give away any spoilers, but needless to say expect lots of film tie ins, the launch of the LEGO Mini Monthly Build in Singapore (finally), oh and it’s the 60th anniversary of the LEGO brick!
