Reimagine LEGO® Icons Optimus Prime (10302) and Bumblebee (10338) with Epic Alternate Builds
Looking for a fresh way to enjoy your LEGO® Icons Optimus Prime (10302) and LEGO® Icons Bumblebee (10338) sets? You're in luck! Talented MOC deisgner Ransom_Fern has created alternate builds that transform these models into unique versions of the iconic Transformers from the Bumblebee movie.
Optimus Prime: A Sleek, Modern Take

Ransom_Fern’s alternate build for Optimus Prime taps into the instantly recognizable design from the Bumblebee movie. Unlike the blocky G1 Prime, this version has a more human-like silhouette and proportion, with a refined white face and a slimmer profile. While this Prime doesn’t bulk up like others, it still stands tall, exuding strength with a head taller than the official set. The back and thighs are tweaked to maintain the overall proportions, though some areas had to be adjusted with minor compromises.

Not only does the build look great, but it’s also packed with function. Prime’s shoulders are sturdy, and he even retains waist articulation! Ransom_Fern managed to preserve enough flexibility in the arms and legs to make him posable while still sturdy enough for display. Sure, wrist swivels are sacrificed, but who needs them when Prime looks this epic?
What makes this build even more appealing is how accessible it is—there’s no need for extra pieces; everything you need comes from the original set!

On the Bumblebee front, Ransom_Fern delivers a fantastic interpretation of the Bumblebee we know from the 2018 movie. This version trades the original set’s blocky design for a sleeker, more articulated build, with a distinct gray-and-yellow color palette that’s true to his on-screen appearance.

The clever use of curves and specialized pieces really brings out Bumblebee’s form. Key features such as the iconic blue eyes are recreated using 1x1 pieces, adding personality to the build. Articulation is also a highlight of this alternate design. Bumblebee can be posed in a variety of dynamic stances, thanks to some heavy-duty hinge plates that provide strong joint support. Whether you want him in action-packed poses or just standing guard, he’s a sturdy model that’s fun to display and play with.
And just like Optimus, Bumblebee’s new form requires no additional bricks, making this build an exciting and easy upgrade for fans of the original set.
A Perfect Blend of Form & Function

What sets these alternate builds apart is how well they balance form and function. Ransom_Fern’s approach to both Optimus and Bumblebee ensures that they retain their unique movie aesthetic while offering more articulation and posing options. These are more than just display pieces—they invite interaction, creativity, and storytelling, all while staying true to the essence of the Transformers universe.
If you're new to fan-made models, don’t worry! These builds are straightforward and fun to tackle, even if you don’t have much experience with alternate models. Plus, they offer the satisfaction of getting even more out of the sets you already love.
