WHAT'S TO BUILD

Capybara Craze: 3 Brick-Built Cuties You Need to See

Capybaras have officially entered their brick era. Over on Rebrickable, talented builders are reimagining this laid-back icon in creative ways — from clever alternate builds to display-ready character pieces.

Here are three capybara MOCs that deserve a closer look.

Capybara Backpacker

This is easily one of the most charming transformations of LEGO® Creator Beautiful Horse (31166). Designed by Made With Brix, the Capybara Backpacker reshapes the original inventory into a rounded, compact capybara with impressive curvature and balance. The builder makes excellent use of slopes and curved elements to recreate that signature barrel-like body.

The green backpack is the defining feature. It instantly turns the model into a character — relaxed, adventurous, and full of personality. Paired with the tiny flower detail, the build feels playful without being overly complex.

What makes it even more satisfying is that it uses only the parts from LEGO® Creator Beautiful Horse (31166). No additional pieces required — just pure creativity transforming one animal into another.

Capybara Model

This Capybara Model by apocryphea focuses on strong shaping and display presence. The body features more defined angles around the snout, back, and legs, giving the capybara a sturdy and grounded look. The proportions feel balanced, and the layered brickwork adds subtle texture across the body.

A standout element is the scenic base. With water tiles, greenery, and layered terrain, the capybara feels placed within a natural setting rather than simply standing alone. The environment frames the model beautifully and adds visual depth from every angle.

It’s a cohesive build that blends character and setting into one complete display piece.

Capybara

Minimalist, clean, and full of charm — this seated capybara by Annattq proves that simple shaping can be incredibly effective. The model uses smooth layering to create a soft, rounded silhouette. Its compact design makes it perfect for display on a desk or small shelf, while still being instantly recognizable.

The detail on top of its head may look like a lime, but it was originally meant to represent an orange — inspired by the famous capybara-in-orange-hot-spring imagery. The creator intentionally chose a lime tone to avoid blending too closely with the capybara’s warm brown body, ensuring better contrast and visual clarity.

It’s a thoughtful color choice that elevates the overall design while keeping it playful.

Three Builds, Three Personalities

From a clever alternate build by Made With Brix, to a scenic display model by apocryphea, to a stylized character piece by Annattq — each capybara brings a different building experience and aesthetic.

If you’re in the mood for something cute, calming, and creatively unexpected, these brick-built capybaras might just be your next project.
