Embark on a quest of sole searching to nourish your creativity.
Here's a step-by-step guide to get your started!
Step 1: Brainstorm Ideas
Think of a theme that suits your style. Perhaps something that you have been currently obsessing over, favourite work of art, favourite band, something your passionate about, or maybe even make it seasonal to fit your festive decorations.
What are the keywords and visual elements come to mind when you think of this theme?
Theme: Singapore |
Theme: Starry Night |
Theme: Flower Power |
Step 2: Research
Do some grunt work to find design elements and patterns for your idea board. This will help to take some pressure off and help you get building right away. Your original ideas will naturally flow out of you once you start building!
You can use websites such as Pinterest and see what comes up when you search for the keywords you came up with in Step 1.
For LEGO DOTS, you can easily find patterns in the product pages online or in the instructions.
Step 3: Prepare your LEGO bricks
If you don't own one yet, or you want to build a customised version, you can purchase the LEGO® adidas Originals Superstar (10282).
The easiest way to get started is to use the LEGO DOTS Creative Designer Box (41938), Lots of DOTS (41935), and Extra DOTS (41932, 41921)!
Step 4: Unbuild your LEGO adidas Originals Superstar (10282) and Rebuild It Your Way
Be bold! Be brave! Remember that you still have the LEGO instructions on hand. If you make a mistake, you can simply rebuild it again.
Remove the shoelaces and detach the top Even though the Eyerow is just 1-stud wide, you can still make patterns out of it such as the Rainbow Pattern we did for the Flower Power-themed shoe. Take it to the next level by using stickers on your LEGO bricks like what we did for our Singapore-themed shoe with Singapore MRT stations stickers. |
|
Take out the sides The build makes it easy to customise this shoe as the sides are connected to this base with ball joints. |
|
Disconnect the ball joints Once you disconnect the ball joints, it will much easier to unbuild the adidas Stripes and rebuild it your way. You can use simple patterns such as the lovely flower patterns we used for the Flower-themed shoe. If you want to stay true to the adidas Stripes design, you can also keep it simple with monochrome colour. You can also mix it up by using one colour only but adding a few bricks here and there to make it blend more with your over-all design.
|
|
Detach the back and disconnect the sides from the hinges The back is simply connect to the sides and is very easy to take out. The same goes for the sides which are just connected to the shoe using click hinges. If you want to keep it simple, you can opt to use the Hashtag element from the LEGO Extra Dots polybag and mix it with the letters from the LEGO DOTS Creative Designer Box. Otherwise, you can also make patterns to make it blend with the rest of the shoe. For the sides, you can go crazy and be as creative as you want to be. Spell out words using LEGO DOTS alphabet patterns or even create an artistic pattern. |
|
Customise the toe to your liking Every inch of this shoe is an opportunity to make it stand out! Customise the toe too. Though there's only a six-stud space, you can use your imagination to make it your own like how we made a cheeky face using flower bricks as ear/hair, eyelash bricks, and red LEGO DOTS pieces to make lips. |
|
Tie the laces up in a unique way Express yourself further by changing the way the laces are tied. If you're new to this trend, you can look up tutorial videos on Youtube or Pinterest. |
